MQ-9 Reaper (Predator B )

An MQ-9 Reaper (Predator B ) takes off from Wheeler Sack Army Airfield (WSAAF) at Fort Drum, New York on 05 April 2012. The MQ-9 is from the 174th Fighter Wing which launches and recovers its aircraft at WSAAF.

The General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper (formerly called Predator B) is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), capable of remote controlled or autonomous flight operations, developed by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) for use by the United States Air Force, the United States Navy, the CIA, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Royal Air Force, and the Italian Air Force. The MQ-9 and other UAVs are referred to as Remotely Piloted Vehicles/Aircraft (RPV/RPA) by the U.S. Air Force to indicate their human ground controllers. The MQ-9 is the first UAV designed for long-endurance, high-altitude surveillance.

In testing conducted at the US Naval Air Weapons Station in China Lake, CA from December 2013 - January 2014, a Brimstone-equipped MQ-9 Reaper Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) scored nine direct hits against stationary and maneuvering targets traveling at speeds as fast as 70 MPH, while launching from up to 7 miles away at altitudes as high as 20,000 feet - realistic "middle of the envelope" shot profiles.

Eitan Crashes on Training Flight in Israel

An Eitan-type (Heron TP) unmanned aircraft crashed near Moshav Yesodot in Israel on Sunday. No injuries were reported. An initial investigation suggests that the aircraft exceeded its flight restrictions apparently due to a human error. The damage is currently estimated at nearly $ 5 million. The crash occurred during a joint Air Force and Israel Aerospace Industries drill and the aircraft came apart in the air on its way back to the Tel Nof base. A joint team has been set up to investigate the circumstances behind the accident.“The wing fell in the orchard and the fuselage fell in the military base,” the Nahal Sorek council head said. “A fire broke out because of the fuel in the aircraft but was extinguished shortly thereafter.” The scene was declared a closed military zone.“I was sitting at the office and suddenly heard a blast,” says Hezi Eisen who lives nearby. “My initial thought was it was one of the crop dusters or a military aircraft from an IDF airfield.” Eisen added, “It was a pretty loud blast.”The Eitan is scheduled to begin operational activity soon. It has been reported that it will also provide coverage for such countries as Sudan and Iran. It has also been reported that France is interested in acquiring several such aircraft from Israel’s Aerospace Industries.Weighing five tons, Eitan is 14 meters long and has 26 meter-long wings. It is able to fly for 20 hours straight at a maximum speed of 143 Knots and reach a maximum altitude of 41,000 feet. Eitan is meant to be utilized in complex intelligence gathering missions. It has already been dubbed “the most advanced UAV in the world.”

Remote Sensing Device Dropped from Drone

Senseable, a small danish drone technology developing company, has announced a new product for remote sensing and monitoring. During development, the unit was called the dropship, named because of it’s ability to be delivered by drone (dropped or put down). The Dropship can be equipped with a large range og sensors to measure air quality, seismic activity, noise levels, micro plastic concentrations, temperature, pressure and a whole lot more. The Dropship is delivered to remote locations that’s hard to reach or were a low level of intrusion is demanded, using drones, and when the time comes to collect the data, a drone is able to download data from the Dropship at a distance of 1 mile. The Dropship is a great tool for monitoring the environment, wildlife or gather geological data inremote locations.Senseable CEO Jesper Andersen said, “At Senseable we like to explore the possibilities and different aspects of merging sensor and drone technology in new ways. The dropship has a lot of potential and while the first prototypes are being tested, a new and even more exciting feature-set is being developed for the next version. The dropship is a typical Senseable project where a rapid prototyping technology has been used to develop the product in record time.”
