Latest
    estimates by humanitarian organizations indicate that there are currently 200
    000 IDPs in Dohuk governorate who fled Ninewa governorate in the past weeks,
    100 000 in Erbil governorate, 25 000 still within Mosul, while some 175 000
    displaced persons would scattered throughout the region. Many families are in
    staying makeshift camps along the border with the Kurdish Region of Iraq
    (KR-I).Violence,
    fighting and volatile security conditions in many parts of the country are
    priority concerns for the maintenance of basic services to the affected
    population. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) called on all warring factions to respect medical staff and
    facilities following the extensive damage of the NGO-run medical facility in
    Tikrit as a result of shelling.

 Heavy
    fighting and military offensives continue in several parts of Syria, with
    increased aerial bombardment reported in the northern and eastern governorates
    of Aleppo, Ar-Raqqa, Hassakeh, Deir ez-Zor. In the western parts of Dar’a
    governorate, in the south of the country, several towns have come under intense artillery shelling in the past weeks.On 18 June, air attacks in the village of Al-Shajarah, just across
    the border with Jordan, resulted in the death of several people, including nine
    children according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR). The
    wounded were transported across the border for treatment at Jordanian
    hospitals. The attack, which directly affected the IDP camp in the area, caused
    panic among the Al-Shajarah resident population of about 15 000 inhabitants.  
 
     
      
        
        
          Sudan – conflict (UN, MSF) 
        
        
        
        
      
    
    Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) condemned the aerial bombing of one 
of its hospital in Sudan in a press release. The civilian hospital in 
the conflict-affected state of South Kordofan was struck by bombs during
 an air attack on the village of Farrandalla on 16 June. One medical 
worker was wounded and three severely injured patients had to be 
transferred to another hospital, while damage to the facilities included
 the destruction of the emergency room and pharmacy. The medical 
facility was clearly identified with a flag and a cross on the roof.The Acting United Nations Resident 
and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan issued a statement in Khartoum on 
the protection of medical units.The EU Commissioner for 
International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response 
condemned the bombing, stating: "Attacks on medical services by armed 
forces is a crime under international law. I take note that the Sudanese
 authorities have denied responsibility and I urge the Sudanese 
government to immediately investigate the circumstances and establish 
who was responsible."In May 2014, a hospital in the Nuba mountains was also bombed.  
 
     
      
        
        
          Philippines – Zamboanga crisis (ECHO) 
        
        
        
        
      
DG ECHO allocated a further EUR
    250 000 to assist victims of the conflict in Zamboanga in September last
    year.Some 3 800 families are still
    living in very difficult conditions in over congested evacuation centres.The
    action, implemented by Action against Hunger Spain, Plan International and the
    International Organisation for Migration, will assist 1 500 of the most
    vulnerable people through transitional shelter solutions, improved water and
    sanitation facilities and acute malnutrition treatment for children under five
    years and pregnant and lactating women, including the establishment of child
    and women friendly spaces.   
     
      
        
        
          Myanmar - Clashes in Shan State (ECHO) 
        
        
        
        
      
Daily clashes between the
    Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Burmese Army have continued
    in northern Shan State over the past week.Hundreds of people fled their
    homes in Kutkai Township after artillery was fired on their village.The TNLA and the Kachin
    Independence Army (KIA) have not signed a ceasefire agreement with the
    government.
     
     
      
        
        
          Cambodia / Thailand - Return of large number of migrants (ECHO) 
        
        
        
        
      
Following a push back by the
    new military regime in Thailand, the number of illegal migrants returning
    from Thailand to Cambodia has reached 171 000 over the period 6-17 June,
    with a peak on 14 June (44 000 people crossing the border in Aranyaprathet
    – Poipet).Many Thai employers were left
    without workers and there are growing concerns about a negative impact on
    the economy, both in Thailand and Cambodia.IOM, NGOs and the Red Cross
    provided food, medical services and transport to the thousands of people
    stranded at the border.
     
     
      
        
        
          Cote d'Ivoire - Severe Weather

Above-average rainfall has been affecting Cote d'Ivoire during 
the past few weeks. WMO reports 110mm of rain in 24h in the western 
coastal town Sassandra, over 17-18 June.According to local media, a landslide that occurred in 
Attécoubé, a village in Abidjan, on 18 June due to heavy rainfall, 
caused the death of four people. A previous landslide, also in Abidjan 
on 12 June, had killed six people.According to NOAA, rainfall is expected to continue over the 
country during the week of 19-25 June, increasing the probability of 
localised floods. 
     
      
        
        
          China - Severe Weather

Severe weather, including heavy rainfall, hail and winds, 
affected northern China, from east to west, over 16-18 June. Rainfall 
resulted in floods in Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, Gansu, Liaoning and 
Xinjiang, adding to the casualties and damage.As of 19 June, the Chinese Government reports 11 deaths throughout the affected regions. |
